Consolidation of Systems Improves Bank’s Operational Efficiency

A strong regional bank wanted to update and consolidate its multiple Human Resource (HR) and Financial systems into one.  The broad scope of the project and the sensitive nature of the information demanded a Senior Executive who could reach across the enterprise and guide this high priority strategic implementation.

The first wave focused on HR.  Information pertaining to all programs and processes for each facet of HR had to be migrated from the old system to the new.  But investigation quickly disclosed that some core information was saved elsewhere, adding to the need for identification of all potential sources prior to consolidation.

The second wave included the Financial systems and would take place one calendar quarter later to allow for adequate mock run testing of the HR system.  The second wave involved the same effort, but this time focused on corporate financial reporting, SEC reporting, payroll, and budgets.

THE SOLUTION

The BASG Consultant brought extensive experience in banking to this assignment.  The mandate was to work with the vendor, a Big4 Company, the EPMO and key executives within the bank to implement both phases of the new system.

The role included championing the change, bringing disparate groups together, keeping the program within scope and budget, leading and guiding the full project from a high level, and apprising senior management of progress, and any issues uncovered to mitigate risks.

The Senior Consultant began by providing input on the implementation approach, including resource plans, timeline, EPMO processes, milestones and recommendations to the Steering Committee and management.

Throughout the work program risks and issues were resolved and input provided to Bank Executives on managing vendor performance and delivery.

THE RESULT

Both phases were successfully completed on time and within budget creating a holistic view of HR and Financial data aggregated in a single system.  The success of the project gave the Bank the security of better data protection and a significant increase in reporting and operational efficiency.
